DISCLAIMER: This is an opinion article, written by me, Teresa Yanaros. I’ve presented my own opinion of these concepts below. Please do your own research and develop your own story for the ideas I’ve presented. I am not an authority on Tarot. I am a student. And I will always have much more to learn. How Did I Find Tarot?

I had a question come in yesterday from someone in the middle of reading my book, which dives into my discovery of the Tarot.

Reading Tarot has become an integral part of my life. I realize now that I’ve always had an archetypal mind, but ever since I found Tarot (really Tarot found ME!), understanding archetypes has woven its way into my life even more now than ever before.

What is an Archetype?

  • a very typical example of a certain person or thing
  • an original that has been imitated
  • a recurrent symbol or motif in literature, art, or mythology.

An archetype is an original pattern that all other patterns are fashioned after. The 78 cards of the Tarot represent each original pattern of consciousness development from the beginning of our soul journey to the end of this density/ vibrational level of consciousness. Becoming a student of the Tarot allows you to reflect upon these archetypes, and try to embody them. This is a craft that you can hone on your path toward self-mastery and ascension.

I teach all about archetypes and how you can assess your own soul journey in the lecture I presented in 2017 at Eclipse of Disclosure in Mt. Shasta, California.

Where Do I Begin?

Here is the question that came in last night:

“Teresa, you’ve sold me! I need a Tarot deck because I want to learn how to read the cards. Can you help me out?”

Worry not, my friend! Tarot Teresa to the rescue! (Did I just coin my super hero name?)

Tarot Decks You Need In Your Life

Hanson Roberts Essential Tarot Kit (Deck and Guidebook)

This was my first Tarot deck. It’s amazing. I love that the book gives you straight-to-the-point and concise definitions that are easy to remember. The deck itself has beautiful art that is chock full of symbolism, which makes it easy to pull ideas out of the collective consciousness as a beginner. Some of the more advanced decks have less images to pull from, which can make it more difficult to learn the archetypes as a beginner. This is a great deck to buy if you are just starting out. But even for seasoned readers, this is an essential deck to have in your repertoire. I use this deck frequently. This deck is so clear that it speaks directly to me. When I pull spreads with the Hanson Roberts deck, I am able to read the cards as one big archetypal story. These cards make that possible and easy.

All-in-one set! Set includes 112-page full-color hardcover mini guidebook, a full boxed deck of Tarot cards, and a keepsake box in which to store your book and cards.

Durable Tarot set will last for years: 78 full-color cards on coated card stock. Card set comes in a full-color box with die-cut window, accompanied by a title card and a ‘To All Believers’ card. Cards measure 2-3/8″ wide x 4″ high and fit nicely in the palm of the hand. Deck is complete with 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana. Card titles appear in five languages: English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Sturdy red-and-black keepsake box comes with a molded tray in which to keep your book and cards and shuts with a magnetic closure to keep your Tarot set secure.

The Gilded Tarot

This deck is a powerful and colorful deck. The images are sharp and striking, and the bright contrast used inspires the subconscious and catalyzes the imagination. The characters on the cards are mesmerizing, and hold a certain medieval quality. This deck is one of my favorites, and is a valuable deck for any person’s collection, beginner or advanced. This was the second deck I ever bought. Fifty decks later, I am still using this deck consistently. Highly recommended.

Most Tarot decks with really spectacular designs are really just art collections. The Gilded Tarot transcends this limitation by having some of the most strikingly beautiful art on any Tarot deck, yet follows the Rider-Waite-Smith model. The result is a unique deck that any person with some Tarot experience will find instantly familiar and usable. This deck can be used with any Tarot system or book.

The colors are deep and intense, almost metallic. They draw you in and will have you staring at the images repeatedly. But this is more than a deck to look at, it’s a deck to use! The Gilded Tarot Companion, a full book by Tarot expert Barbara Moore, is included with this deck. It’s a complete introduction so that even a beginner can use this deck right away.

The Psychic Tarot Oracle Cards: a 65-Card Deck, plus booklet

I use this deck every day. It’s super useful because there is one word/phrase at the bottom of each card that describes the concept reflected in the archetype. This is a great deck to use to supplement readings. What I mean by that is when you layout a spread, you can use multiple decks. I do this all the time. Then when you want to do a reading, you can see how cards from different decks complement each other. Notice in the image of this deck above, you see a card that reads, “Balance.” Let’s say you are pulling two cards for a reading. Let’s say the question is, “What message do I need to hear today?” If you pulled the “Balance” card along with a card from another deck, you can use the concept of balance to infuse the meaning of the other card you’ve pulled. I highly recommend this deck. The images and colors are wonderfully complementary to other more traditional decks, which gives the reading a boost of expansion.

The 65 beautifully illustrated cards in this deck will create a powerful bridge between your psychic abilities and the ancient knowledge and meanings of the tarot; and will help you develop intuitive insights about all areas of your life, including love and relationships, business matters, and even career changes.

This fascinating deck will work for you whether you’re a novice or are already in tune with your psychic abilities. In the accompanying guidebook, psychic medium John Holland imparts techniques that he’s practiced himself and taught in his workshops, relating to colors, symbology, shapes, words, card spreads, divination, numerology, energy centers, imagination, and more. By using the cards, you’ll be able to incorporate John’s techniques when you do a tarot reading for yourself or others.

These are just three decks that I highly recommend. If you are looking for a Tarot reading, or need assistance learning how to read Tarot, I offer both services. Check out my offerings here:
